The most accurate way to size at home is with a ring that already fits. Set your screen up once with a bank card or a $1 coin, then match your ring to the circle.

Set up your screen
Hold a bank card flat against the screen inside the outline, and adjust until the outline matches its edges exactly. If you don’t have a card handy, a $1 coin works too.

Match your ring
Lay a ring that fits on the circle, then adjust until the line sits right on the inside edge of the ring.
Your size
Screens can vary slightly, so treat this as a strong guide. For an engagement ring, we’d suggest confirming with our printable or posted sizer.

Australian and UK sizes run in letters, with half sizes in between. Each full size adds 1.25mm around the inside of the ring.

Australian and UK sizes follow British Standard BS 6820. European sizes are the inside circumference in millimetres (ISO 8653), and US sizes are rounded to the nearest quarter. We make every ring to its Australian size.
Getting it right
A few things that change the fit
Measure late in the day
Fingers are smallest first thing in the morning and in the cold. Late afternoon, at a comfortable temperature, gives the truest reading.
Mind the knuckle
A ring has to slide over the knuckle before it sits at the base. If your knuckle is noticeably larger, size to the knuckle.
Wider bands fit tighter
A wide band covers more of the finger, so it feels snugger. For a band 5mm or wider, go up half a size.
Between two sizes
Choose the larger one. A ring that’s a touch loose is comfortable, while one that’s a touch tight never quite is.
Measure the correct hand
Your dominant hand is usually a little larger, so measure the hand and finger the ring will actually be worn on.
Measure more than once
Take a reading on two or three different days. If they differ, go with the one taken late in the day.
Planning a proposal
Finding a size in secret
The most reliable way is to borrow a ring they already wear on that finger. Lay it on our on-screen or printable sizer, or bring it into the studio and we’ll measure it in seconds.
Can’t take it out of the house? Trace the inside edge onto paper with a sharp pencil, or press it gently into a bar of soap, and send us a photo next to a ruler. A trusted friend or family member is often the easiest route of all.
If you truly can’t find out, err slightly large. A ring that’s a touch loose still goes on during the proposal, and can be adjusted afterwards.

Every engagement ring includes a complimentary resize within the first three months, so if the size isn’t quite right, we’ll adjust it for you. A small materials charge may apply if a larger size needs extra gold.

Common questions
What ring size system does Australia use?
Australia uses the same letter sizes as the UK, from A through to Z, with half sizes in between. Most rings fall somewhere between F and Z. If you know your size in another system, the converter above will translate it for you.
How accurate are the on-screen and printable sizers?
Both are true to scale once they’ve been checked against a bank card, and measuring a ring that already fits will usually land you within half a size. Measuring the finger itself is less precise, which is why, for an engagement ring, we’d always suggest confirming with a physical sizer or a fitting in the studio.
Can my ring be resized later?
Most rings can. Plain bands and solitaires are straightforward, while fully set eternity bands and some patterned designs can’t be resized easily, so those are worth getting right the first time. Every engagement ring includes a complimentary resize within the first three months.
Is the ring sizer really complimentary?
Yes. We’ll post it anywhere in Australia free of charge, limited to one per order. It’s a simple belt-style sizer, so for an engagement ring we’d still suggest checking it against a ring that already fits.
Can I be sized in person?
Of course. You’re welcome to visit our Melbourne studio by appointment, and we’ll size you on a proper set of sizing rings. Get in touch and we’ll find a time that suits.
Should my wedding band be the same size as my engagement ring?
Usually, yes. If your wedding band is noticeably wider than your engagement ring, it may need to be half a size larger to feel just as comfortable.
